Ingrown Toenails

Symptoms: an ingrown toenail (onychocryptosis) occurs when the side of the nail cuts into the skin next to the nail. Not only can this become very painful, but the skin next to the nail may also become infected or inflamed. The condition usually occurs on the big toe, although any toe can be affected.

Treatment: Your skilled Podiatrist can easily remove the corner of the nail that has penetrated the skin, often with little to no discomfort. The infection is likely to persist unless the portion of nail that is causing the ingrown toenail is removed. Then all that is needed to clear up the infection is dressing for a few days. Your Podiatrist will discuss ongoing management options with you, including minor surgical intervention if the condition persists.
